Prophet Yaqub

• Prophet Yaqub was the son of a Prophet Ishaq (AS) and his wife Rebecca.
• He was born in Palestine.
• He spent his life exactly in the footsteps of his father and grandfather (Prophet Ibrahim)
• He had full faith in the oneness of God.
• Prophet Yaqub was chosen to be the Prophet of the Bani Israel (Israelities).

HIS MARRIAGE AND OFF SPRING

Allah (swt) blessed Prophet Yaqub (AS) with a large family. He had four wives and twelve children who were all boys. His sons became progenitors of twelve tribes. His two younger sons were Prophet Yusuf(PBUH) and Benjamin. Their mother was a beautiful woman named Rachel. Prophet Yaqub had great affection for them.

One day Prophet Ya’qub’s son Yusuf came to him and told him about a special dream.Yusuf(A) said “ O my father! I saw 11 stars and the sun and the moon all bow down to me.”At once, Prophet Yaqub (AS) realized that his sons’ dream was the dream of a prophet and had some important meaning.

Prophet Yaqub helped his son understand the dream. Yusuf(AS) was to become the next prophet from this blessed family of the prophets.

PLOT AGAINST PROPHET YA’QUB

As the offsprings of his other wives were jealous of Prophet Yusuf (AS), they hatched out a plan to separate Yusuf(AS) from his father. They took him out on a lame excuse of tending sheep and threw him into a well that was dry. They came back home crying and said: “ A wolf has eaten Yusuf.”Ya’qub suspected foul play on the part of his sons. He bore with patience the mental torture to which he was subjected in his old age. He wept bitterly day and night and lost his eyesight. After a long time he came to know that Prophet Yusuf (AS) was alive and healthy and was serving as a custodian of storehouse in Egypt. Prophet Ya’qub (AS) along with his whole family proceeded towards Egypt on the invitation of his son. They were greeted warmly.

Prophet Ya’qub(AS) settled in Egypt and died at the age of 140 years. He was buried in Hebron (Al Khalil) according to his will.
