Homework for 5/5/2013

1. It is very important to memorize Surah Fatiha, sayings during Ruku, Sujood and while sitting (At-Tahiyat + Durood Ibrahimi). Please note that this is a requirement to pass the grade (we have discussed this many times during the classroom)
2. As before, keep up the effort with both Dua's (March and April + May).
3. Record in your own voice the translation of Surah Fatiha (as discussed in the classroom for the past 2 weeks) and listen to it repeatedly. It will make it easy for you to memorize.

1. Please make sure you memorize Surah Faitha, sayings during Ruku, Sujood and while sitting (At-Tahiyat + Durood Ibrahimi). We will continue the review this week. Our goal is to have everyone in the classroom memorize all of Salah completely by the end of the school year inshallah.
2. Some of you have already done a good job of fully memorizing the dua for the month of March. Others are getting there. Keep up the effort with both Dua's (March and April + May).
3. Classroom Jeopardy competition did not go very well. Almost all the students were not prepared. They need to work harder at home to brush up. Parents are strongly encouraged to work with them and take it seriously.

2. Read Appendix on Salah at least twice. Try to follow the movements when you pray at home.

Homework for 2/17/2013

1. Complete homework at the end of chapter 24: Kindness and Forgiveness.
2. Work on finalizing your classroom exercise (writing three examples from chapter 24 about Kindness and Forgiveness and one from your real life experience). Please bring that sheet of paper with you and submit as part of your homework.
3. If you haven't already, start memorizing the Dua of the month of February posted at the bottom of this page. Remember that there can be a pop-up quiz about "Dua of Jan" and its translation anytime soon.
4. We didn't get the chance to go through the rest of the presentations; therefore we'll do it this week and announce the winner and runner-up along with their prizes, inshallah.

Homework for 2/10/2013

1. No new homework. Read chapter 24 about Kindness and Forgiveness. Be ready to give a real life example of where we should be kind to others and forgive others' mistakes.
2. If you haven't already, start memorizing the Dua of the month of February posted at the bottom of this page.
3. The presentation for "My favorite Masjid" project went very well. All students of Grade 4 joined us for the presentation as well. This week, the winner and runner-up will be announced and will be given prizes in the classroom.

Homework for 2/3/2013

1. Complete homework at the end of chapter 23: My Mind, My Body.
2. Hopefully everybody will have the dua of Jan and its translation memorized. There will be a surprise oral quiz in the month of February about this dua. Start memorizing dua of Feb which is now posted at the bottom of this page.
3. We will have a presentation for the project on "My favorite Masjid" in the classroom. Each presenter will be given 3-5 minutes to talk about their work. You can show pictures to explain your points. Either paper-based or electronic (MS PowerPoint) is acceptable. If you have electronic presentation, please save it on the USB drive and bring it with you. You can also email the presentation to me (please do so by Saturday 5.00 PM latest).

2. Write a short essay (not more than 4-6 lines) on a separate sheet of paper describing how Salah teaches us responsibility and Punctuality

1. Practice role-playing all rituals of Hajj. You need to pretend that you are going for Hajj. This means you would need to know how to wear your Ihram, do tawaf, sa'ee, going to Mina, Arafat, Muzdalfa and Jamarat. Also, cutting of hair and performing sacrifice. You would demonstrate in the classroom all these rituals with full details. You don't have to memorize all dua's but make sure you know the "Talbiya".

To locate these Ayats look for smaller fonts in superscript that will tell you the surah # and the Aya #, for example ^4:30. Pay attention to the meaning. Do this with one of your parent.
3. Read Chapter 4 at least twice. If you come across an Ayat of Quran referenced in the chapter, open the copy of Quran (Mushaf) and read the Ayat and its translation. We will discuss this in the classroom.
4. Review basic knowledge about Salah, Zakat, Saum (fasting) and Hajj, Angels, Creation of Adam, Prophets: Ibrahim, Nuh, Musa, Esa, and Muhammad (peace be upon all).

1. Read Chapter 1 at least twice. If you come across an Ayat of Quran referenced in the chapter, open the copy of Quran (Mushaf) and read the Ayat and its translation. We will discuss this in the classroom.
2. Write names of all twelve Islamic months in your notebook. Describe the significance of the last month.
3. Review material from last year to prepare for a short quiz during the next class. This is to test basic Islam knowledge. Please refer to your 4th grade Islamic Studies book.
