This winter has been colder than normal with above average snowfall. Tapped out on President's Day - February, 16-17. What normally takes about 4 hours took about 11 due to the deep snow, up to my knees, and numerous Ash trees that fell on the lines. Number of taps - 105 - one tree was blown over, another was clearly dead, and the third was an interesting situation. The following weekend the sap began to flow and let it to the ground to purge the lines. I also walked all the lines checking for leaks. When I came across one drop line where the sap was going backwards up the tree and disapearing. Apparently the tree was dead and hollow causing negative pressure sucking the sap from the line back into the tree - this was a first for me.
