Standard 6 - Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication – The competent teacher has foundational knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area and recognizes and addresses student reading, writing, and oral communication needs to facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge.
Artifact Description: This artifact was used to introduce reading and words in Spanish and English. A picture book is always a good teaching resource for students with special needs and other students to new literacy concepts.
Connection to the IPTS standard: This artifact was a perfect demonstration for Standard 6.understands how to design, select, modify, and evaluate a wide range of materials for the content areas and the reading needs of the student.6G) Providing students with materials that can help them understand and learn a lesson is crucial, so I connected this picture book to this standard which gave me a positive result.

Description of what I learned: Through implementing this lesson and using this picture book as the primary strategy to teach students new vocabulary and target students' needs, I learned the importance of selecting good books and materials in the classroom.
Artifact 2 Description:
Adapted books are great for students with disabilities because of their easy access and visuals. This artifact connects perfectly to standard five and provides students with appropriate materials to be more successful in the classroom.
Connection to the IPTS standard: This artifact was a perfect demonstration for Standard 6. selects, modifies, and uses a wide range of printed, visual, or auditory materials, and online resources appropriate to the content areas and the reading needs and levels of each student (including ELLs, and struggling and advanced readers); 6J) Providing a wide range of printed materials for those students with auditory or visual impairment is crucial and benefits them in many academic aspects..
Description of what I learned:
I learned that to be a competent teacher with a vast knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area. Therefore, I need to recognize and address students' reading, writing, and oral communication needs and facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge. These points are essential and need to be always a priority.
