Marth vs Ganon is a battle of the zoning characters. Ganon of course has huuuuge reach with his beefy limbs and hits like an 18 wheeler. Marth, on the other hand, doesn’t hit all that hard (most of the time) but his combos and punishes on Ganon are very good, despite what people think. Also Marth has big sword. Kek.


Marth’s main goal in this MU (like in many others) is to land a grab. Be it raw grab in neutral, DD grab an aerial, aerial into grab, etc.


Get a grab. Ganon can CC most of your moves for quite a long time and his punishes off grab are very devastating against you, so the solution to CC is just grab him, or do safely spaced aerials into shield or dashback then whiff punish his CC punish attempt.


Point is, get a grab. Doesn’t matter how you do it.


Most Ganons love to jump when you get close to them. If they do this, don’t go for dtilt all that often. You’ll just get hit by one of Ganon’s aerials and eat a ton of damage. If they’re more grounded, go for dtilt. If they’re more of a jumpy Ganon, abuse the heck out of nair and swatting him with forward air.


Also watch out for tricksies with waveland grab and ftilts and jabs. Learn the spacing of his wavelands so you don’t get hit by it that much. If you see Ganon jump, either position yourself close enough to swat the jump or far enough away that it’ll be harder for him to hit or grab you. This just comes with experience. Once you get a hit on Ganon, comboing him is very easy, and it should result in heavy damage or even a stock loss for him every time.
