Edge Guarding

This is probably the easiest aspect of the MU. All you have to do here is ensure that Ganon cannot sweetspot with his double jump (i.e. getting it back with Down-B) and that he’s too far away from the ledge to tech your fsmash.

If Ganon goes low, you dtilt him. Assuming he is Up-B’ing, he physically cannot sweetspot the ledge. The same is true for Falcon. You use dtilt and NOT fsmash when he is close enough to the stage to tech. Why? For a few reasons:

  1. Dtilt is untechable for a very long time, because it doesn’t actually send into tumble for a long time. Ganon being heavy also doesn’t help. Higher weight=less knockback=going into tumble later. This is especially true for the hilt hitbox of dtilt.

  2. If Ganon does manage to tech the dtilt, if spaced half decently you will be too far away to get hit by walltech back air or hugged by Up-B. Ganon’s only true option to escape is walljump tech>waveland onto the stage which, at this point in time, is an extremely difficult thing to do, though the slope on YS does help him. Even so, if he misses the waveland and airdodges by accident, you can simply grab him and toss him offstage again or fsmash him on reaction.

  3. I recently realized that you can just double down tilt Ganon Up-B instead of letting him walltech>Up-B the first dtilt. If you double dtilt there is little to no risk in doing so, as if Ganon Up-B’s too early he’ll be locked out of teching the second dtilt and he’ll still get hit without you getting hugged. Walltech bair will still not reach you either. This greatly improves the efficiency of the edgeguard, and it works against Falcon as well. Examples below.

If Ganon Up-B’s early, you have to time the dtilt a bit differently but you can still hit him before he can hug you. Again, this timing comes with practice.

If Ganon goes too low to get onstage, you grab ledge and let him fall to his doom.

Now, if he tries recovering high, you still have plenty of answers to that. Here are some examples:

These are a bit flashier than necessary, but I’m sure you get the idea.

One of the best options here which I didn’t clip was weak fair>fsmash. If Ganon Up-B’s high, most of them will bank on you just fsmashing so they can survival DI up and in to live and get back to stage eventually. However, if you weak fair to push them further away from the stage THEN fsmash, not only does it do more percent, if they DI in (which they usually are because they’re trying to get back to the stage) it’s a free fsmash or down air and they’re probably dead because you can go out and hit them if they try to Down-B. Also, because you’re not letting them very far into the stage plus you’re also not letting them land, it makes it Hell for them to try and recover at all.

If they live the fsmash, go out and intercept their Down-B with back air or even Up-B if they do it way too close to the stage. DO NOT LET GANON BACK. He should NEVER get back against you.

Even if they DI out (which is extremely counterintuitive because they’re trying to recover) all it does is reset the situation. Even if you miss the fsmash and only get the fair, they still have to Up-B again and you lose absolutely nothing, you just repeat the process over and over until the stock is gone. You can even mix up their DI by jumping to make it seem like you’re going to forward air, then empty land and fsmash them as a DI mixup if they start doing DI out on the forward air. This creates a very unfavorable 50/50 for them. If they DI in on the weak forward air they get fsmashed or down aired. If they DI out and get straight fsmashed, they die much earlier. Do whichever suits the situation.

If Ganon does somehow manage to sneak past you (which will happen on occasion) just don’t let him land and up air juggle him into a nair or Up-B or even an fsmash if possible and hit him offstage again to repeat the process. If you do let him land then just get him offstage and force him to use the DJ or just hit him. Don’t worry about Ganon sitting in shield too much. If they start shield camping you, tomahawk them. Your grab is still a threat at high percent because you can toss them offstage or get them in the air. Sometimes Ganon will just live a long time. It happens, nothing to panic about.
