Opportunities
Outreach
The Outreach programme is committed to bringing music to the local community! Outreach projects run throughout the year and include relaxed performances, choirs, orchestra, and primary school workshops. All members are welcome and encouraged to make a difference!
Musica
The Musica Festival is a weeklong student-led festival that aims to make a positive impact on the gender gap in the music industry. MUSICA includes concerts and performances with guest performers and students, as well as talks with female and gender diverse musicians.
Conducting
Every year, we hold auditions for aspiring student conductors. Successful students are led under the guidance of our artistic director, Rob Guy, and have the opportunity to conduct our ensembles, including the Symphony Orchestra, as well as other projects such as opera.
Lunchtime Concerts
The Lunchtime Concert Series gives students a chance to perform in a more relaxed concert, either as a soloist or in a group. Concerts take place on Fridays at 1.10pm, and are free to attend.
Chamber Music
Starting this year, we introduced chamber music! Our MUMS Chamber Database connects members with chamber ensembles, current groups, and composers.
Opera
Every February, MUMS puts on a fabulous opera to consistent high standards, providing opportunities for aspiring singers, actors, directors and conductors.
Tour
The MUMS Tour takes place at the end of the academic year and is open to players in the symphony orchestra pool and chamber choirs.
Teaching Scheme
The MUMS teaching scheme allows those wishing to learn a new instrument to be put in contact with MUMS members looking for pupils.
Socials | Bands and Singers
MUMS hold many different socials throughout the year - pub quizzes, gig nights, bandeoke, summer ball, and much more!
