Professional Biography 

Welcome to Maichao Vue's Professional Portfolio. Maichao Vue is a Hmong girl who immigrated with her family from Laos to the United States in May 2018. She earned her high school diploma in Laos. Since Maichao moved to the U.S. with her family when she was 18, she did not know any English. She started 9th grade at Southwest High School due to her limited English. Despite losing every form of communication and a chance at college, she did not give up on continuing her education. She earned her High School Diploma from Southwest High School in the Green Bay Area Public School systems in Wisconsin on June 5, 2022. She studied hard in school to learn English but the language was very hard with the limited time she had to prepare for universities. Maichao decided to settle at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College to advance her studies and to further improve her English.  

This year is her second year at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) in the Foundations of Teacher Education program. She will be graduating May 2024. Maichao Vue also will study abroad through NWTC. She will take a 14-day study abroad program in Italy on May 2024.  Additionally, the program has opportunities to earn credit from the International Education Practicum. The program covers topics such as the Italian educational system and child-centered teaching methods. 

 Maichao Vue has a passion for teaching. She wants to inspire and be a role model for those who are ESL students and encourage them to not give up on their education. Maichao has a dream to support all students or parents who don't know English. Currently, she also volunteers at Literacy Green Bay to support parents who want to learn English so they would have opportunities to help themselves get better at English. Plus, Maichao works part-time in the Green Bay Area Public Schools as a substitute teacher as well. Being a substitute teacher earns credit on her program in the practicum courses. She plans to work in the Green Bay Area Public School system. She has a passion for going back to work at her place of graduation, Southwest High School, as a paraeducator or substitute teacher. She is expected to graduate from her undergrad school in 2024.

 Maichao wants to continue her education here in the U.S. She hopes one day she can support her family and community. Some things that she likes to do with her family are speak English, do pop quizzes together, and watch movies. Maichao and her family also enjoy wearing traditional Hmong clothes to take pictures.
