Our Project
This case study examines the history of environmental studies at Macalester, specifically in the context of teaching and learning environmental justice. We tie in themes of student activism as well as the broader context of the environmental justice movement and the first environmental justice program in higher education. The current question in Macalester's environmental studies department centers around how environmental justice should be incorporated into the curriculum and whether an environmental justice course should be required for the major. As you flip through this zine, reflect on your own experiences encountering environmental justice on campus and in classes.
Who we are
Our names are Vivian Powell and Will Marsh, both seniors at Macalester College. Will is a religious studies major, and Vivian is an environmental studies and statistics double major. We are both students in the Fall 2022 Environmental Justice class at Macalester.
