During my actual teaching as a pre-service teacher at Marbel 1 Central Elementary School, I had the chance to deliver a real lesson to my students, and the experience was both rewarding and challenging. At the beginning, I introduced the topic carefully, making sure the students understood the objectives. I’ll admit, I felt a bit nervous at first, but as the lesson went on, I gained confidence and adjusted to the students’ responses.
One of the best moments such as student engagement, participation, or a successful activity. Seeing the students actively participate reinforced my belief in the importance of a student-centered approach. However, I did face some challenges, like classroom management, lack of student understanding, and time management. But, strategies like clear expectations and engaging activities were used. Student understanding was impacted by some students' struggles, and strategies like visual aids and peer discussions were used. Time management was a challenge, but solutions included realistic paces, time limits, and buffer time for questions. By addressing these challenges, the lesson will be more effective in the future.
The students were engaged and curious, showing enthusiasm as they participated in discussions and activities. They responded particularly well to interactive group work and hands-on exercises, which made me realize how effective this approach can be in keeping them involved and making learning more meaningful. However, some students struggled with grasping the concept of place value and had difficulty breaking numbers down into expanded form.
To support them better, I plan to incorporate more visual aids, such as number charts and manipulatives, as well as provide additional practice exercises and real-life examples to reinforce their understanding.
Reflecting on my teaching, I believe my strengths were clarity in explanation, patience, and the ability to adapt to students' needs. I made sure to break down complex ideas into simpler parts and encouraged student participation, which helped create an interactive learning environment. However, I recognize that I need to improve on pacing and time management, as I sometimes spent too long on certain sections, leaving less time for review and student practice. Additionally, I want to refine my questioning techniques to encourage deeper critical thinking and ensure that all students stay engaged throughout the lesson.
To enhance my teaching, I plan to:
· Use more real-life examples to make abstract concepts more relatable and easier to understand for students.
· Incorporate group activities and peer discussions to promote collaborative learning and encourage student participation.
· Improve time management by creating a more detailed lesson plan with allocated time slots for each activity to ensure all parts of the lesson are covered.
· Utilize visual aids and hands-on materials to support different learning styles and help students grasp challenging concepts more effectively.
· To foster better classroom control, I will implement clear rules and positive reinforcement strategies to maintain a respectful and productive learning environment.
· I will measure my improvement through student feedback, self-evaluation, and regular reflection on my teaching practices, making adjustments based on what works best for the students.
· Moreover, this teaching experience has been a valuable learning journey. Every challenge I faced has given me insights into becoming a more effective educator. I look forward to applying what I’ve learned and continuously improving my teaching methods.
