My experience as a practice student teacher in Grade 5 ESP, EPP, and Araling Panlipunan at Marbel 1 Central Elementary School has been both rewarding and challenging. On my first day, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as I introduced myself to the students. While I had prepared my lesson plans thoroughly, I quickly realized that delivering the lessons effectively required creativity, patience, and adaptability.
Teaching these subjects required different approaches to engage students effectively. In ESP, I had to find ways to make values education more relatable by connecting lessons to real-life experiences and encouraging open discussions. In EPP, I needed to ensure that students not only understood the concepts but also applied them in hands-on activities. Meanwhile, in Araling Panlipunan, I had to make historical and social concepts engaging through storytelling, visual aids, and interactive activities.
One of the biggest challenges I encountered was addressing the varying levels of student comprehension. Some students quickly grasped new concepts, while others needed additional explanations and examples. To bridge this gap, I incorporated group activities, real-life applications, and visual materials to make lessons more interactive. I also encouraged students to ask questions and share their thoughts, which helped build their confidence and interest in the subjects. However, despite my efforts, some students still struggled, prompting me to adjust my teaching strategies to meet their needs better.
Classroom management was another challenge. Some students were easily distracted, especially during individual tasks or discussions. To address this, I established clear rules and expectations while integrating interactive activities and educational games to maintain their interest. Over time, I noticed improvements in their behavior and participation, reinforcing the importance of balancing discipline and motivation in creating a positive learning environment.
Overall, my experience has taught me valuable lessons about flexibility, patience, and student engagement. I learned that effective teaching is not just about delivering lessons but about inspiring students to learn, adapt, and grow. This journey has strengthened my passion for teaching, and I look forward to further honing my skills to become a more effective educator.
