ASL 2: Navigating the Course
You will navigate and explore how to access the Canvas dashboard provided by Chaffey College. Once you receive the dashboard, go ahead and click "Enter" to see the homepage on the front screen. At the top of the page, you will see the icons for Chaffey College and the ASL handshape for Level Two.
In the next section, there is a brief video, followed by contact information for the professor, the syllabus including grades and expectations, and the ASL structure guide to help you understand the vocabulary and terms your teacher provides feedback on, as well as ASL linguistics. Additionally, there is a section with a chart listing GIFs of signs corresponding to the first week through the fourteenth week. You should first click to see the weekly expectations.
The forum allows all students to express concerns, share different information, and discuss ideas. You can use ASL to express yourself or type in English according to your preference. This is a great opportunity to improve and build your ASL skills.
If you need assistance or want to find quick information, click on the "Quick Links" section, which has a list to choose from.
You can access the ASL program academic map to see your pathway if you are interested in receiving certification or an AA degree. Be sure to research this if you would like to pursue it.
You can be successful by watching all the lecture videos. Make sure you watch them all. If you don’t understand something, I strongly encourage you to go back and rewatch. You can repeat it as many times as you want. You will want to complete your homework assignments and the expressive videos. Make sure you submit them as well as check for feedback, so that with the next homework assignment, you can see improvement. You should also watch the receptive videos and practice your signing repeatedly. There are many different activities to do, and if you engage with them, you will be successful.
