Below are a list of some common Service Calls you may respond to. Please make yourself familiar with the amount of units expected to respond, and the response code needed.
Response Codes
CODE 1 - Standard Patrol Speed, no lights or sirens
CODE 2 - Elevated speed, Lights with no sirens
CODE 2 High - Very Elevated speed, if further than .6 miles out, use lights and sirens, once less than .6 use just lights.
CODE 3 - Lights and Sirens, Emergency Speeds.
Stolen Vehicle Call
Response Code 2 High
One Marked Unit Response
Arrive on Scene and look for the vehicle based on the description
If the vehicle is located, and occupied, call for backup and attempt a Code 5 Stop.
Shots Fired Call
Respond Code 3
Two Marked Units or More, Unmarked can also Respond
Arrive on scene, draw your service weapon, and attempt to locate the shooter and clear the scene. Always secure the scene of any threats before proceeding to Medical Aid or investigating. If a downed person is down, attempt to call EMS, and then proceed with First aid or transport.
Once Scene is secure and all medical aid has been provided, pull out your flashlight and search for bullet casings. Go Back to MRPD and write a report.
Bank Robbery / Jewelry Store
Respond Code 3
3 units minimum 4 max (Can be marked or unmarked, at least 1 uniformed officer)
Place your Patrol vehicle parallel to the road (Do not block Local Traffic)
Attempt to negotiate with the suspect(s). THEY ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A HOSTAGE TO REQUEST FREE PASSAGE
IF THEY DO NOT, YOU ARE CLEAR TO BREACH
Once free passage has been given, follow Pursuit Guidelines.
Bank Truck Abduction/Robbery
Respond Code 3
3 units minimum 4 units maximum (Can be marked or unmarked, at least 1 uniformed officer)
Arrive on scene and secure the scene of threats. Proceed to investigate with your flashlight for bullet casings. Notify the Major Crimes Taskforce.
Breaking and Entering (House Robbery)
Respond Code 2 High
One Marked Unit Minimum, two units maximum
Arrive on scene, And perform a felony ped stop on anyone in the area that has recently been inside the house. Set up a perimeter around the door if no one is in the immediate area. Attempt to yell through the door that you are with the police department. Once the suspect exits the house, use verbal commands to surrender, and ONLY USE HIGHER FORCE IF Necessary.
Make sure all threats are clear, and the scene is secure. Detain anyone and then question them separately. Check for casings and begin investigating.
Injured Person
Respond Code 3
If no other calls are coming with it (Shot’s fired for example) respond with 1 marked unit
Arrive on scene, and secure the scene from any threats. Move the injured victim to a safe place, such as a sidewalk. Inspect their injuries and provide first aid. If gunshot wounds are found, search for casings and write a report. If no crime or dirty play is found, transport the victim to Pillbox Medical Center and resume patrol.
Officer Down
Respond Code 3
Any available units, Minimum 1 marked, No Max Cap
Arrive on scene and clear the area. Locate the downed officer and begin First aid. If EMS is enroute, wait for EMS to arrive and pass them off. If No Ems is available, one officer shall transport the downed officer to Pillbox Medical. If possible, have a second unit follow for security.
Begin Investigation, if any casings are found write a report.
