Hello! My name is Maiya McSorley, and I am the 4K-12 School Counselor for the Loyal School District. This marks my third year in the role of school counselor, and I am so lucky to be returning! I will also be serving as the District Assessment Coordinator beginning in the 2026-27 school year. I co-advise student council and am the advisor for Greyhound Mentors and Educators Rising.
I earned my Master of Science in Education School Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in May 2024. Prior to that, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology, focusing on Mental Health, also at UWRF, graduating in 2021. Originally from Strum, WI, I attended and graduated from the Eleva-Strum School District, so I greatly enjoy the small-town feel that Loyal brings.
When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, exploring the outdoors, spending quality time with friends and family, nurturing my house plants, and learning to solve Sudoku puzzles. I have one cat named Pepper (after Pepper Potts from Iron Man) who is a beautiful calico. Additionally, I am an avid fan of Taylor Swift and have a particular fondness for cheese-related foods.
My commitment to mental health and supporting children and adolescents is the driving force behind my career in school counseling. I am an advanced trainer in the Neurosequential Model for Education, trained in SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment), mental health first-aid certified, and trained in restorative practices, specifically for substance use. My passion is empowering children and adults to develop lifelong emotional intelligence and self-regulation skills. I believe that when people truly understand their emotions, they can learn to work with them rather than against them, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth. By building these foundational skills early and strengthening them throughout life, individuals gain the confidence and resilience to navigate relationships, adversity, and personal success with greater ease and purpose.
I look forward to collaborating with everyone at Loyal and invite you to reach out to me via phone or email for any inquiries or support.
