What is small group counseling?
Group counseling helps students to:
Overcome issues impeding achievement or success
Identify problems, causes, alternatives and possible consequences so they can make decisions and take appropriate action
Group counseling sessions are planned, goal-focused, evidenced-based and short-termed in nature
Small group topics may include:
Emotional awareness & self-regulation
New student small group
Specific emotional growth groups (e.g. Worry Warriors, Angry Birds)
Grief & Loss or other Big Life Transitions
Leadership & Self-Esteem
Academic Fitness
Overcoming Anxiety
Friendship Groups
& more! We work to be adaptive and provide exposure to a variety of topics each school year based on student needs
LifeTools is a group program through the Marshfield Clinic that Loyal School District has been able to be a part of. The LifeTools program is a group that lasts for 8 weeks, meeting 1x a week after school. Students from ages 7-14 are able to participate, and it is best practice to have students of the same grade level and gender work together. We explore topics such as emotion management, stress management, relationship skills, anger plans, and much more! Every week we practice mindfulness and identifying good things about our week. We discuss the various parts of ourselves and how they influence our lives.
Please contact Miss McSorley if you have any questions about LifeTools program.
