As a school counselor, my role is to "provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention focused on mental health or situational concerns such as grief or difficult transitions" and "recognize and address barriers to accessing mental health services and the associated stigma, including cultural beliefs and linguistic impediments." (ASCA, 2020). School counselors meet with students for short-term counseling, and refer students out when needs arise.

In individual counseling, we will:
Focus on finding solutions to the problem v. focusing on the problem
Focus on how feelings, thoughts, and behaviors interact together
