Honey Davis was Born in Chicago in 1957. When he was 15 years old he opened for Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame member Van Morrison. In 1975, when he turned 18, Davis moved to San Francisco. There he worked with Blues Hall of Fame member Charles Brown both in San Francisco and on the road. He played The San Francisco Blues Festival and at landmark Blues spot The Rainbow Lounge with Dottie Ivory. He also opened for Blues Hall of Fame member Bobby Blue Bland and played gigs with Freddy Roulette and Jimmy Mc Cracklin. He opened for Buddy Guy for Bill Graham Productions as well as MC 5, The Jefferson Airplane, and SST. He headlined regularly at The Temple which was next door to Bill Graham’s famed Fillmore West.
After moving to Los Angeles Davis played at most of the renowned clubs throughout the Los Angeles area. He even became the house entertainer at a nightclub Ion Catalina Island one summer. He has shared the stage with DJ Rodgers, Vernon Garret, as well as bands like Soul Recording Artists LTD, and Rock bands like Robin Trower, Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs, rockers Electric Peace, and his own rock project Hollyrock. He also played with Bluesman Smokey Wilson whenever he gigged at clubs in Los Angeles.
In The Mid-1980s Davis booked a recording session at Famed Mystic Studios. Some original Davis Compositions were recorded by Doug Moody (Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Led Zeppelin, Lightning Hopkins, and Punk Label Mystic Records) it was the last recording made at Mystic Studios before Mystic Records Re-Located to Oceanside California. The Building that Housed Mystic Studios (previously it was called Del-Fi Studios where Richie Valens “La Bamba”, “Oh Donna”, “Come On Let’s Go” recorded as well as the Bobby Fuller 5 “I Fought The Law”), was torn down shortly thereafter and is now a high rise office building. Because of Mystic Records Famed Mystic Studio closing, the recording had to be mixed elsewhere. Those recordings became the foundation for Davis' first LP, “My Heart Attacked Me”.
Davis remained in Hollywood after the death of Mary Christmas, the love of his life. She worked as a waitress in a bar and was stabbed. She survived the stabbing but several years later developed an aneurism which took her life. Davis, now a widower, had 5 little girls to raise and didn’t want to live the constantly roaming life of a road musician for their sakes. Mary had played organ on “My Heart Attacked Me” and some other songs. Davis decided to release the LP in honor and memory of her.
In The Late 1980s, Davis released “My Heart Attacked Me” on the Life & Death Record Label. It got a lot of airplay on college radio throughout America but didn’t have decent distribution. Davis was able to pick up distribution in Italy and Holland after Promotion Executive Mark Wilkins Company International Record Promotion got him press coverage and radio play.
The memory of the viral coverage in Italy during the early 1990s, coupled with Davis' superior musicianship and songwriting skills helped inspire the owner of Italian record label Blue Flame Records to offer Davis cash for a three-year licensing deal in the early 2000s. The record’s popularity provided Davis with the opportunity for a two-nation European Tour. He toured Europe as a solo blues artist concentrating primarily on Italy in what would be known as the 2 Million Line Tour of Northern Italy. He also toured The Netherlands. Later in the 2000s, Davis toured in America with The Mentors and Death Metal Band Hammer hawk.
In 2012 Davis began playing regularly at the North Las Vegas Blues Landmark the Seven Seas. He recorded an album with the featured singer at the club, Chicago Bluesman Bobby Jones. A consistently working musician, Davis continues to actively perform Rock and Blues sets in Vegas and elsewhere when called upon to tour. He has also appeared in many videos, films, and motion pictures, often holding a guitar (which is his trademark in films). Davis also has an acting role and wrote and performed the theme song for the cult classic film She’s Allergic to Cats.
Besides being a working musician, Davis is a prolific songwriter having penned such Blues classics as “My Heart Attacked Me”, “Curb Service” and “Small Apartment”, which was featured on the popular, Emmy winning daytime TV show “Ellen”. He also penned Rock Classics “Too Many People” and “Jessica” and Trance Music classic “Don't Cry”. Two compositions that he is currently working on include “Pretty, Pretty Girl” and “One Night at A Time”.
