Born on a chophouse floor on a cotton plantation, Bob Willie Jones grew up listening to Country and Blues music. He had various odd jobs including a six-month stint as Hank Williams driver before going into the army. Not long after he got out of the army Bobby Jones made his way to Chicago, intent on becoming a working singer. He broke into the music business in the early 1960s in Chicago. He got work at Pepper's Lounge a noted Blues nightclub. The owners liked Bobby's voice so much that they tapped him to replace Junior Wells in a Blues band The Aces when Junior began to get a lot of out-of-town engagements due to his solo hit "Messin' with the Kid".
During his career, he played on stage with Blues icons like BB King, Buddy Guy, and John Lee Hooker and Soul Icons like Smokey Robinson, Brooke Benton, and Aretha Franklin. He is known both as a Soul Singer and Bluesman.
He recorded over 200 songs in his career. Sometime in the late 1980s- early 1990s Bobby changed his last name to Jonz because there were several singers by the name of Bobby Jones and he wanted to stand apart from them in name, because he truly stood apart from them in his vocal talents. Bobby Jonz has a low, silky voice that improves the quality of any song he sings. There’s nobody out there today that can even come close to the quality of his voice. Bobby Jonz signed with Loveforce International Records in January 2020. Bobby was very happy to be on Loveforce International and even convinced his longtime friend Billy Ray Charles to join him on the label.
Bobby Jonz died of Covid in July 2020. The recordings he made for Loveforce International are the last recordings he made before his passing.
