Billy Ray Charles is a soul and Blues Musician, singer, record producer, and songwriter. He has written R&B and Soul hits and he is considered the best living Southern Soul Songwriter in many circles. His songs have been recorded by Rock & Roll and Blues Hall of Fame Inductee Bobby Bland, The Temptations, Tyrone Davis, Freddie Cannon, and The Cold Bloods.
Known for performing in the Soul, Southern Soul, and Blues music genres, Charles is in the Las Vegas Blues Hall of Fame Inductee and has won the Las Vegas Black Music award twice, in two different years (2009, 2013). He has performed as a musician with Soul Legend Johnny Taylor, The Temptations, Joe Williams, Al Wilson, Blue Mitchell, and The Fifth Dimension. Charles's collaborators for much of his career were legendary songwriters and producers Jimmy Lewis and Richard Cason.
During the1970s Charles was a guitar-playing member of The Hitmakers an elite group of African American musicians similar to The Wrecking Crew and The Funk Brothers. Playing with Charles in The Hitmakers were such luminaries as James Gadson (Watts 103rd St. Rhythm Band), Drums, James Ingram (famous smooth soul singer of hits like “Just Once”), Keyboards, Ray Parker Jr. (“Ghostbuster’s Theme Song”). Guitar, David T Walker Guitar, Tony Colemen Trombone, Keyboards, Piano, James Jamerson Jr., Bass.
Billy Ray Charles signed with Loveforce International Records in June 2020. He did so because he knew that Loveforce International would allow him to stay close to his Southern Soul roots but also release songs he wrote and recorded in other genres including Reggae, Latin, and Jazz. Since his signing, Billy Ray has delivered over 200 new songs to Loveforce International Records. About 100 have already been released with 100 to be released in the next several years. Loveforce International Music BMi is his Administrative Co-Publisher on all 200 songs. We have more of his recordings and are Co-Owners and Administrators of more of his music than all of the other labels and publishers he has been associated with combined.
In August 2020 Loveforce International arranged an in-depth interview with renowned Music Journalist David Williams from the UK. It is the first in-depth interview with such an important journalist in his entire career. The interview is in the current issue of Living Blues Magazine.
