Currently in my LIS 664 Reading, Literacy, and the Library Class, I am in the works of doing an Enabling Text Project. Previously, we learned how librarians can engaging and be open to African-American patrons by learning their culture. Professor Dawkins instructed our class to do an assigned reading based on African-American Literature while creating a video that characterizes the Enabling Text such as relationships, challenges, opportunities, etc. For my project I chose to read "I'm Not Dying with You Tonight" by Gilly Segal and Kimberly Jones.
During Fall 2021, I took LIS 670 Education For School Libraries and I worked on an Inquiry For Learning Project. Professor Dawkins had us identified an issue of what was going on in school libraries and how librarians can resolve educational issues in the environment. I did a PowerPoint Presentation project called "Autism in School Libraries" based on how school libraries can work with children who have autism and make their experience feel comfortable. I recommended Autism Related Programs, Autism Awareness in Libraries, and Reading Academic resources about Autism.
In my LIS 650, I presented a presentation to my class on Chapter 21 "Other Managerial Skills." I directed to my class of how important it is to have the skills of time management, scheduling, having empathy, and not having stress. I gave constructive feedback on how to manage these skills in a library and work setting. I presented my presentation with example images of television series and cartoon animation for creativity.
At the end of LIS 650, our class wrote a reflection paper based on what we learned and met our objectives this semester. In my paper I stated, I was glad to meet and share stories with my classmates about why I want to become a librarian. I also gained knowledge in learning about project management and budget. Thanks to this class, I got a better understanding of how a fiscal year works.
During LIS 670 Education For School Librarians, Professor Dawkins had the class make Educational Belief Statements of how we can help make a difference in students lives. This assignment was about explaining our professional goals and our purpose of becoming good advocates of school librarians. This assignment helped me see the growth in myself of how far I have become for helping people strive for their full potential. Looking back at these Educational Belief Statements will remind myself how I will become a work my best to become the best librarian while working to achieve my five year goals in my career.
