The Alara were geologic sprites and a member of The 44 Peoples. Originating from the Frauji region of Tempest, the Alara were cellular automata, fueled by static electricity. Their internal anatomy was made of silicon lattices, computational filaments, and crystallized circuit structures that all formed naturally. This brought many myths surrounding the Alara from the human race, especially since there are no recorded instances of an Alara passing away.
Alara had a wide array of appearances, often dependent on the environment they formed within, but they would often be described by humans as angelic or fairy-like. Their quantum molecules created geometric features in Alara anatomy, with sharp angles and symmetrical shapes. Alara lacked many attributes of organic life, including no binary sex, no signs of age, and no need for food, air, or water. The Alara has no auditory language, leading to difficulties communicating with humans. Their names were often nothing more than unique strings of numbers, similar to a serial code, encoded in their genes.
As human science within the Holy Eavonian Confederation improved, so too did the understanding of the Alara. The Alara were discovered to be one of the oldest inorganic species on the planet of Eranosia, their evolution dating back over one billion years ago. Their inorganic nature also allowed for artificial reproduction of their biology by humans, starting with the invention of early computing devices, then the task-oriented array of robotic servants called Produx.
In the 6th Age, Sultana Akgul the Third revoked the Alara’s status as a People, along with several other species, citing their inorganic and replicable attributes. This would be known as the Flesh & Soul Amendment, an initially controversial but eventually normalized position within the Confederation. The Alara then became hunted or “mined” to extinction, harvested for their components in the production of advanced artificial intelligence, which culminated in the creation of the Phoenix. Phoenix were a product line of androids, indiscernible on the outside from humans and capable of exerting free will. The company who created the androids, PhoenixWare, were unaware that they had accidentally resurrected and evolved the Alara.
