The Aegiino were mysterious alchemists and a member of The 44 Peoples. They lived across Eranosia, but were believed to primarily inhabit Frauji. Aegiino physiology and biology was almost completely undocumented and unknown besides their external features. No dissection, medical file, or internal scan was ever permitted by the Aegiino themselves, and voluntary donors for study were nonexistent. They had completely chrome and opaque skin, with 20 tendril-like limbs that could intertwine themselves to form larger, more humanoid arms and legs. Their faces appeared as a completely flat surface, although anyone or thing that looked into the face of an Aegiino would always be able to see their own reflection in perfect fidelity, no matter the angle or lighting.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the Aegiino was their language. Although they adapted their own written language, they did not have a traditional form of speech. Instead, their voice sounded identical to the listener and in their native language. Should a person look into the face of an Aegiino while they spoke, they would see their own reflection talking back independently, even if the real person in the reflection were not moving their own mouths. Despite this often uncanny ability, the Aegiino were highly respected as translators and augers.
Despite their voice being dependent on the listener, the Aegiino still possessed their own names and a binary gender identity. Gender was not determined by biological factors however, instead it was determined based on the skills practiced. Females were the more aloof and secluded Aegiino, who would exclusively practice the art of Alchema. Males would be more open to collaboration and documentation, which also meant they would be more inclined to practice the modern Machina practice which primarily involves machinery rather than magic.
The Aegiino were the first of the recognized 44 Peoples and the first user of The Vessel, the device that allows for communication between mortals and the godly Arbiters, was given to an Aegiino who historically is only known by the epitaph Protos. This deep connection with the mystical Arbiters gave the Aegiino a reputation for possibly being of extra-terrestrial origin, but this was never confirmed for certain. Even as the world modernized, the Aegiino’s understanding of the ancient art of Alchema was unmatched, but their secretive and self-contained culture prevented their power from being exploited. When the Solstice War began, very few Aegiino remained in Eranosia as the species population declined, the last remaining members of the species going into hiding to perform enlightenment rituals for the remainder of their days.
