This section incorporates competencies 13 and 15 of Quebec's Reference Framework for Professional Competencies for Teachers.
It is an educator’s duty to provide a safe environment in the classroom and any other educational setting students may find themselves in to promote learning. A large part of that is promoting respect and educating against discrimination or cultural appropriation. Teachers should ensure that cultures and barriers are represented in their classrooms to foster students' knowledge and bring awareness. It is also important for teachers to be aware of the legal rights and responsibilities to ensure their students’ confidentiality and safety at any point in time, whether inside or outside of the school. All of this should be done in an ethical manner that ensures students are nurtured into model citizens.
These two competencies focus on the ethical implications in the teaching profession and ensuring Indigenous values, as well as proper representation, are incorporated in the classroom environment.
