Without Chi Alpha, I don't know if or when I would have truly encountered God. I knew of him growing up and would call myself a believer, but it wasn't until my freshman year that I knew what it meant to be a follower of Jesus. God has done so much in my life and has empowered me, comforted me, taught me, and loved me so dearly. I don't think just words would be able to compare. This community, Chi Alpha, has helped me in my journey with Christ in enormous ways. I have been given countless opportunities to grow and learn, to corrected and challenged, but also to be encouraged and loved. I am very thankful to have been apart of this community.
More about what they are as a whole, their main motto is Worship, Family, Mission and take their name "Chi Alpha" from the bible verse 2 Corinthians 5:20 (aka Christ Ambassadors). They desire to reach college students in a time of their lives when they are choosing major life decisions and introduce them to what an abundant life they could have with Christ. They are passionate about overseas missions and open up opportunities for their students to go to places all over the world.
D-group is literally one of the best things about Chi Alpha, especially when you are in Emily's! D-group is a time to get together in small groups and just share struggles and praises while diving in the word together!
This was when I first joined D-group. As years went one, I became a d-group leader, and even joined the CMIT internship.
This was the first trip I went on with Chi Alpha. This was a trip to Tennessee Tech for a all nigher with other XA families in TN. It was so fun! I got to meet so many different people and play games. One game being Minute to Win it, where my team was called Indecisive. We didn't win, but I deemed us worthy of the Spirit award that I made up.
Here is one of my teammates Alyssa with our "trophy" for the Insomnia Minute to Win It award.
Before the night began, we had time to worship and listen to a sermon!
Salt was such an amazing trip! Not only did I recommit my life to God, I also got to get to know more people in my XA family as well as learn more from the word! During this trip I lost pain, bitterness, and fear and gained the Grace of God!
This was such a fun trip! We got to go to a camp and just worship and learn more about God for an entire weekend! I got closer to friends, learned more about myself, and got to dive in to the Word!
Feb. 13, 2020 I was born again! This was a super awesome experience. A lot of XA members where there to cheer me on! Not to mention I was able to be baptized along some pretty awesome people, which I deemed us birthday twins!
Over the years, I went to many Spring Project trips in the US. Knoxville (my freshman year during COVID), Mountain Home Arkansas, and Virginia Tech. The Lord both ministered to me and through me! Each group felt family with our intentional times and moments of silly jokes. And the trips themselves brought me out of my comfort zone again and again. I am so thankful for these trips because they helped shape me to who I am today!
Because of COVID-19, we weren't able to go overseas for Project, so there was a virtual one done in an Airbnb in GA. I honestly didn't want to go but I knew the Lord wanted me to and I thought I will either just stop here or the Lord will call me somewhere overseas. (This was when the Lord was working missions in my heart) While we were on Virtual Project, we got to talk to workers overseas on zoom, go to a Mosque and eat new foods. We got to experience as much as we could still in America, but it definitely opened a lot of doors to understanding culture and Islam. It was a great trip and I'm glad I went!
I have learned a lot about discipleship by leading my own d-group, and it's brought me so much closer to God. The girls in my D-group have become my very best friends and I have enjoyed seeing them grow as well as them helping me grow as well.
I am thankful for this call God has given me to share the Gospel with his children and I know he is helping me grow to do this the rest of my life.
This was the trip the Lord called me to during Virtual project, and it just so happened that Chi Alpha did project 222 to Mozambique! I learned so much on this trip about culture, how to love others, about my relationship with God, my privilege, the comforts I don't want to give up, and what life is like as a missionary. There the Lord called me next to Argentina and challenged me if I was willing to go with people I didn't know. So, I'm excited for the next step!
During my trip to Mozambique, I feel like the Lord called me to go to Argentina. After some conversations, it was agreed that going to Chile first would be the best opportunity to grow and learn from missionaries there. I was there for two months and teamed up with missionaries in Santiago Chile working on college campuses. I also was able to go to Coquimbo and see a school for Chileans called to do missions. During my time there I grew my Spanish vocabulary and learned what it looked like to live live as an overseas missionary. I learned to navigate a new culture and context and shared Jesus along the way. This is just one step to where the Lord will call me in the future.
