Because of time constraints, essays will be assessed via peer review and teacher review. Students will receive specific instruction in how to read the rubric for each assigned essay and how to give constructive feedback. Students will be assigned to peer groups that rotate through Revision Stations with only one group out of six receiving feedback from me for each essay. ANY student wishing for more feedback can schedule an appointment (see the Book Now link below) and I will read every submitted paper. Between Turnitin's Feedback Studio, peer reviews, self-reflection, and one-on-one feedback students will receive all they need for writing support.
Parents: Since the course is organized into one major writing skill per quarter, there will be parent nights toward the beginning of each quarter to help you become familiar with the skill on which we are working.
You'll learn about the essay prompt type, have some time to outline your response to a sample prompt, and then assess in small groups with "I CAN" statements that are specific to that essay type.
