My BMM Custom 'Deco
Based in Talysarn, Wales, he started out as a furniture maker in the 1980's, though he built his first guitar in 1976 and his first ukulele was in 1994. He is now a full time luthier and has the reputation for being one of the best in the world, but he stopped making Guitars in 2001 to concentrate of Ukulele making. He use to brand his Ukuleles with a label saying "Island Koa Ukuleles, Handcrafted in the UK" but I don't think he still does. As standard he makes mainly Concert and Tenor scale with a few Sopranos and his Baritone are all custom orders, plus he makes resonator Concert and Tenor Ukulele with the standard catalogue being topped off with solid electric Tenors, (he calls the "electric firefly") and 5 string Bass Ukuleles. He will do pretty much anything else as a custom order, (when he takes them, he doesn't do much custom work as he reputation is so good that his standard models all sell as soon as he makes them), and famously made the prototype Harp Ukulele for aNueNue. In addition to making Ukuleles he also teaches the art of manufacture where he makes the paddle shaped "marmite" Soprano. I have heard that sadly in 2015 he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
