Throughout the world there are small manufacturing firms, maybe a luthier who has expanded the operation and taken on some staff, maybe a number of craftsmen who have got together in some form of co-operative. However it started these manufacturers usually make very high quality instruments even if the Ukulele is not the firms main outputAkerworks
This is a family owned and run firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee, also called Akertoys and specialising in novelty items, toys and other decorative and vaguely useful wooden items. They have in their catalogue a 485mm (19.1 in) scale nylon strung Baritone that they produce either with or without a pickup. It is made from reclaimed beech wood and the design has been refined in its lifespan to feature a canted headstock and geared tuners.Covered Bridge
I don't have a lot of information beyond "Ukuleles handcrafted one at a time in Oregon by Perry and Terry Bullinger" I know they make Concert and Tenor models in a variety of local and imported woods I know the Tenors can have a slot head rather then the very plain pointy head and I know that they mostly use friction tuners and can put a Concert or Tenor neck onto a Pineapple body. From the facebook pictures I think they mainly build on spec and that is about all.
