On the 17th of July, 2024, Kosofe Local Government took a significant step towards enhancing the educational resources of its public primary schools. Under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Barr. Moyosore Ogunlewe, and represented by the Vice Chairman and Council Chairman, the local government distributed English dictionaries to outstanding pupils from 18 public primary schools within the Kosofe jurisdiction.
The event saw the participation of the top four pupils from Primary 4 in each of the 18 public primary schools, selected based on their academic performance in the 2023/2024 session. These pupils, accompanied by their teachers, received the dictionaries with joy and enthusiasm.
The Vice Chairman and Council Chairman, in their remarks, highlighted the importance of education and the local government's dedication to supporting the academic growth of its young citizens. They encouraged the pupils to make the best use of the dictionaries, enhancing their vocabulary and language skills, which are crucial for their overall academic development.
The presentation ceremony, held at the Kosofe Local Government Secretariat, was attended by pupils, teachers, and representatives of the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA). The Executive Chairman's initiative aims to recognize and reward pupils who have distinguished themselves in their academic and moral records. By doing so, it also encourages their peers to pursue their studies with diligence and strive for excellence.
The choice to distribute English dictionaries is based on the need to improve spelling skills and familiarize pupils with the meanings of words through examples and usage. This initiative aligns with the local government's commitment to providing essential educational tools that support learning and academic success.
The pupils' excitement was palpable as they received their dictionaries. Many expressed their gratitude and shared their eagerness to use the dictionaries to improve their English skills. The teachers also appreciated the gesture, noting that such initiatives significantly contribute to a better learning environment.
Kosofe Local Government remains committed to supporting education and fostering an environment where pupils can thrive academically. This dictionary distribution is just one of many efforts to ensure that the pupils of Kosofe have the resources they need to succeed. The Kosofe LGEA Education Secretary, Mr. Babatunde Shoneye, expressed his appreciation to the Executive Chairman for this thoughtful initiative. He called for more such gestures, emphasizing the positive impact they have on the pupils' learning experiences.
