Even if you have all the markings possible to cover your basecoat completely, as rule at least a little of it must be visible to compare darkness/lightness of markings.
Remember that markings should always be recognizable and visible, you are allowed to hide ONE marking of your choice (your kiseilian will just be a carrier for that gene and will still pass it to offspring) but will be able to make your design look better if that mark is hard to handle; other than that you cannot hide all the markings!
In case of Chimera mutation, you can hide one marking per chimera side!
When posting your design in approval add a note (either in the comment or stash comments) saying which marking has been hidden!
In each guide, you will find if a marking can be:
saturated
can be only darker or lighter than the base/what it sits over
can be of any allowed color
can be symmetrical or asymmetrical
hard, soft, blended, textured, irregular edged
Unless specified, markings' saturation should be below 160 (SAI1) or 80 (SAI2), stay out of the circle to be sure!
Each marking has its own color rules, in some guides you may find these sentences
Can be lighter OR darker than what sits under
Can be of any allowed color
can be lighter or darker than the base AND of any allowed color
When a marking says it can be darker/lighter than what sits under, you can only use darker/lighter tones of the basecoat for that marking.
A good reference is using the Pearl or Smoke slider of your basecoat
If you have jasper and have a marking with ''Can be only lighter or darker than the base'' you can use Pearl Jasper and Smoke Jasper for markings for example!
(Colors do not need to be colorpicked from the sliders!)
When a marking can be saturated, you can go crazy with saturation and colors, withouth worrying about breaking the complementary rule
When a marking says '' It can be of any allowed color'' You can use any color your heart desires, paying attention that you dont break the complementary rule (unless your marking is saturated then you can break the rules) (Colors do not need to be colorpicked from the sliders!)
When a marking says ''it can be lighter, darker AND of any allowed color'' you can use any color is allowed to interact with your basecoat but should still look lighter darker compared to what it sits under it.
So if you have a Jasper base, you can use any color that is from the Pearl or Smoke sliders for example!
(Colors do not need to be colorpicked from the sliders!)
When a marking can be of any allowed color, you can use any available color, but some colors are marked as complementary
That means that these colors still can be used, but you can make a complementary combo only once in the whole design!
For example if you have a jasper kise you can make the markings green (complementary), but if you plan on putting purple on the design you should probably reconsider it as purple and green are also complementary colors
Only saturated markings do not follow this rule and can be of any color regardless of how may complementary are on the design already.
Click on the basecoats to see the allowed and complementary colors!
JASPER
HELIODOR
HAUYNE
SUGILITE
MALACHITE
AMBER
ONYX AND ALABASTER
These are absolutely NOT passable: too many complementary combos on the same design.
These are allowed! Green and red/pink are the only complementary combo on these designs.
This is borderline passable: Yellow + purple and purple + green count as 2 complementary combos, but since the yellow is Robin which allows saturated colors, it can pass.
This is bordeline passable: Yellow + purple and Orange + blue count as two complementary combos, but if the markings are affected but Lumen which saturates them, it can pass.
