The Kirk Mechanism is a device that is found somewhere in Timeline Gamma that contains a particularally senitive part of Charlie Kirk's essence. Contary to popular belief, the Kirk Mechanism is considered a proper variant due to once being a regular human. (unlike Mirror Kirk)
One the outside, the mechanism appears to just be a bust of Charlie Kirk with two robotic limbs with human hands on each end. All it seems to do is endlessly rotate its limbs with no real purpose. Upon further examination, the truth about the mechanism is much more horrifying than the average individual would think of.
When Dr. Hubert Zalewski (see Gamma Expeditions) first saw it, his very first thought was to monitor the bust's head to see if there was any activity. After having his equipment monitor it for a couple hours, he checked the results to find out the truth. When Zalewski checked the scans, he saw both an actual brain, proving his idea was true, and very noticable activity in the amygdala.
After further tests, Zalewski concluded that the machine had a brain and conciousness, but was going through constant psychological agony. Yet it had no proper mouth to scream through.
Still, the unknown location of the object after the expeditions has left many questions unanswered. The most prominent ones are about the device's power, and its suffering.
It is unknown how the mechanism is being powered, though there is a popular theory to explain why. It states that a hyper-advanced species older than humans originally built the device, and that Charlie Kirk's assasination morphed it into Charlie.
However, the reason as to why the device is in constant agony has no solid answer. Nothing about Zalewski's tests seem to hint towards anything, so any answers one could think of are strictly speculation.
