The most resilient of the hyena clans.
┗ Determined ✦ Athletic ✦ Combat
The Magi Giza Hyenas are known for cannibalism, blurring the lines between hunter and prey. Loyalty is crucial, with betrayal unforgivable. Living in a resource-scarce environment, they meticulously watch their limited provisions, understanding the value of every scrap of food. Their society is marked by unapologetic violence and ruthlessness, with bloodshed accepted as a norm.
The Magi Giza Hyenas have earned a grim reputation for their savage habit of cannibalism, a behavior that sets them apart from the others. Within their clan, the line between hunter and prey blurs as they show no hesitation in feasting upon their own kind. To them, cannibalism is not merely a means of survival, but an instinct ingrained in their behavior. In an environment where resources are scarce and competition for food is fierce, these hyenas have evolved a ruthless survival strategy.
They possess an inherent sense of distrust, scrutinizing anything and anyone that may appear disloyal or pose a threat to their clan. For them, loyalty reigns most important, holding a high place above all other virtues. The betrayal of this trust is considered an irreparable offense, an act from which there is no redemption.
Bitterly, this clan faces the daunting reality of possessing the scarcest resources among their rivals, coupled with the lion's share of danger. Living on the brink of starvation ingrains within them a deep-seated understanding that waste is a luxury they cannot afford. Every morsel of food, every drop of water, is treated as invaluable — to be carefully rationed and utilized to its fullest extent.
Their society is characterized by its unapologetic violence and ruthlessness; bloodshed is embraced as a natural aspect of their clan, exhibiting no restraint in their methods. The shedding of blood is no cause for concern but a simple reality, accepted without question or hesitation. They are formidable predators, having a chilling disregard for the sanctity of their own kind, making them both feared and hated.
Life in Magi Giza
As the night falls over Kijabi, the Magi Giza hyenas stir from their slumber and dive headfirst into the day's tasks. There is chaos as everyone starts going. There's no luxury of set schedules; rather, it's a relentless race to accomplish everything that needs to be done.
Much of the night is dedicated to fending off threats like crocodiles and other dangers from the den and safe zones.
Rather than socializing as a whole clan, Magi operates through a series of one-offs and tight-knit smaller groups, fostering deeper bonds among its members. The den serves as a central hub, but individuals often gravitate towards maintained safe zones for relaxing.
When the executioners return with their hunts, the hierarchy within the clan becomes starkly apparent. Prey is consumed in a strict order of ranking, with the highest-ranking members enjoying the spoils first, while those lower in the pecking order receive meager portions.
Appearances
The Magi Giza are characterized by their athletic and muscular builds, a trait that extends even to the lower ranks. They typically boast thick fur and manes, with waterproof pelts that have a greasy texture. Their coloration tends to favor darker shades of browns, reds, and occasionally blacks and grays.
Fighting style
Highly skilled in water combat, Magi Giza hyenas capitalize on their natural adaptation to wet environments to gain control in battles. They are well-versed in underwater combat, they effortlessly navigate beneath the surface, ambushing targets with precision and patience. They excel in leveraging their swamp environment to their advantage. Including employing camouflage techniques such as covering themselves in mud, sticks, leaves, or any available materials from their environment, even enlisting crocodiles as allies, and tactically felling trees to forge pathways, enhancing the safety and efficiency.
Health
They uphold a "walk it off" mentality, where wounds are licked clean and considered acceptable. With no healers, survival hinges on natural resilience. Those in higher ranks typically maintain better health than their lower counterparts, reflecting the harsh realities of their hierarchy. Hyenas are frequently seen bearing injuries and scars.
Religious outlook
The Magi Giza reject the beliefs of the Mother and the Heir, preferring to rely on their own strength and determination to face challenges. They do not believe in the concept of divine intervention shaping their fates.
They look down upon consulting with lions.
How they treat non-clan born hyenas
The Magi Giza clan is generally indifferent towards outside hyenas but does allow them to join if they are willing to demonstrate their worth, even those from the other clans. However, potential new members should exercise caution, as the Magi Giza initially view all hyenas as potential prey. Once this hurdle is overcome, the Magi Giza are quite welcoming to newcomers. New members will be regarded with suspicion until they have proven their loyalty.
The Magi Giza hyenas have a unique approach to ranking within their clan, diverging from the traditional hyena matriarchy's strict gender roles. Unlike conventional norms, their hierarchy is determined by a combination of physical and mental prowess, granting both male and female hyenas equal opportunities to attain higher ranks.
The clan is governed by a single leader known as the chief, establishing a dictatorial rule over the clan.
Chief
The chief is not only the symbolic figurehead of the clan but also serves as its primary decision-maker and caretaker. One of the chief's primary responsibilities is to provide guidance and direction for the clan.
Berserkers
They directly support the Chief's rule and are the busy bodies of the clan. Berserkers are the hyenas who are responsible for keeping the clan in check, enforcing laws, and helping the chief keep everything organized.
Wardens
The clan's most formidable hyenas who shoulder the duty of safeguarding the communal den from the dangers lurking within the swamp. They diligently patrol the maze of willow trees, ensuring the safety of their fellow clan members and guiding them through the complex terrain when needed.
Executioners
These hyenas are specialists in hunting and hold a particular rank within the clan dedicated to using their combat skills to locate and eliminate prey for the benefit of the clan. They are also expected to utilize these skills in battle when the need arises.
Legion
These hyenas have demonstrated their prowess in combat and serve as the primary guardians of the clan. Forming the backbone of the clan's defense, they are the first line of protection, ready to confront any threat that may endanger the clan. Additionally, they are responsible for establishing and upkeeping "safe areas" across the territory.
Ravagers
This rank is typically responsible for scouting the territory, collecting information about potential dangers or rival clans. In battle, their role is to harass targets relentlessly, wearing them down by tearing at their legs before withdrawing and leaving them vulnerable to the rest of the clan.
Novice
Novices are young hyenas who are still proving themselves and receiving training in a specific rank. They are assigned mentors to guide and train them
Grunts
These long-standing members of the clan have demonstrated their unwavering loyalty and usefulness, yet they do not possess any remarkable prowess. Often assigned to tasks such as cleaning and maintaining the den or assisting with whelps when needed.
Incomer
Typically having dispersed from their origin clan to find a new home. Having narrowly avoided being preyed upon, they have earned an opportunity to demonstrate their worth to the Magi Giza. Despite this, they are viewed with suspicion and are among the lowest-ranking members.
Bitten
These rare individuals are the few who have betrayed their clan's trust and survived the severe "A Thousand Deaths" punishment. As a result, they have lost the clan's faith and have been demoted to the lowest rank. They are treated with complete disdain by the clan.
Whelp
Or better known as cubs.
Chief
┗ Damu Masozi
"The endless craving to be more than what meets the eye."
┗ Damu is known for her power hungry and borderline selfish leadership, yet beneath her vulgar mannerisms lies a twisted sense of honor and an furious determination to forge her own path.
Leadership style
Damu overall tends to be blunt and direct, demanding even when upholding her leader position in the clan. A lot of her decisions are mostly based off of her emotions rather than logic, often borderline selfish actions, rule breaks, and power hungry mannerisms. Though she does often come from a place of caring for the clan she wholeheartly wants to say she was born and raised in. The Magi Giza is her home and she wants to do what's best for them, even if many won't accept her.
In-clan reputation
Damu took the Chief position in a storm and quite suddenly, already not being the most liked hyena in the clan as she was always unforgivingly rude to anyone, even previous higher ups. Being the daughter of a Bitten, one who did one of most unforgivable acts of treason a Magi Giza hyena could, left a trail of worry and doubt in Damu's pawsteps. Many are very mixed about her being their Chief, they either support her or don't.
External reputation
Damu is seen as a cruel and merciless brute by the other clans. Her reputation is steeped in fear and loathing, fueled by her unforgiving nature and utter disregard for decency. She is a cannibalistic terror undeserving of respect, compassion, or even the most basic acknowledgment of dignity.
The Chief has final say in all matters.
Power is and will always be gained by physical and mental prowess, not by gender or a pre-established bloodline.
Any form of favoritism or discrimination based on factors such as gender or bloodline is grounds for punishment.
High-ranking members must uphold honor and show respect towards each other as powerful individuals.
Due to the limited resources, all clan members must contribute to gathering and managing resources. Wastefulness or hoarding is forbidden.
Show gratitude and respect towards those who protect you.
Loyalty to the clan is of the utmost importance. Any betrayal of trust results in becoming a Bitten with no chance of redemption.
Any hyena who refuses to participate in another's "A Thousand Deaths" will be deemed disloyal and will receive the same punishment themselves.
Forming close relations or relying on external aid from other clans is considered a breach of loyalty.
Attacking high ranks outside of "Trial of Teeth" is grounds for punishment.
Assessments
┗ If you wish to roleplay a rank up (aka an assessment) please request so in here: #Assessment Requests
Chief and Berserker
Is earned by challenging the current members to a "Trial of Teeth."
Wardens
Candidates are tasked with safeguarding one of the many safe zones in Magi Giza's territory for a day, mirroring their future responsibilities as wardens guarding the communal den. Successfully protecting the safe zone during this trial results in a passing grade.
Executioner
Their skills are rigorously tested as they are assigned the daunting task of hunting down another African predator (such as a wild dog, lion cub, hyena, jackal, etc.) and returning with its head as proof of their kill. This trial challenges their ability to survive the dangers of the hunt, successfully make the kill, and retain their trophy.
Legion
They are tasked with simulating an escort mission, guiding and safeguarding another clanmate through the treacherous swamp. Success is achieved by safely navigating the selected route without any harm befalling the party.
Ravagers
The mentor is responsible for identifying and creating a threat for their novice to uncover, testing their ability to detect it independently and without prior knowledge of being evaluated.
Grunts
Incomers who have demonstrated their loyalty are promoted to the rank of Grunt, receiving first pick of food as a reward for their dedication to the clan. Similarly, whelps who have shown less-than-desirable skills and failed their assessments are also assigned to this rank.
Special Ceremonies
┗ Explanations about ceremonies found in the Magi Giza.
Rank ups (Whelp to Novice)
Magi Giza whelps of age undergo a "Rite of Passage" marking the start of their apprenticeship. They are assigned the task of retrieving a bone from any animal, whether by finding one or hunting it down, and returning it to the den. This trial tests their intelligence and strength; failure is a disappointment and results in becoming a Grunt. This rite of passage is why the Magi Giza communal den is typically scattered with old or rotting bones of many different animals.
Rank ups (Novice to ___)
After completing their assessment, they must keep vigil around the den for the day. When the clan is settling down to sleep, they are rewarded with the first pick of food to celebrate their success. Born and raised Magi Giza whelps will often find the bone from their "Rite of Passage" and bury it, honoring their next step in life.
Wildebeest Migration
During the migration season between June and July, the Wildebeest pass near Magi Giza territory, presenting an opportune time to ensure plentiful meals for the clan. Additionally, it offers a strategic opportunity to disrupt the activities of neighboring clans.
Trial of Teeth
With a focus on fostering strong leadership devoid of favoritism, challengers must demonstrate prior experience and mentorship of a novice to qualify. The "Trial of Teeth" entails a battle between a higher-ranking member and a challenger, with the last one standing declared the victor, whether by submission or the death of their opponent. Those who fall in battle are honored and respected by the entire clan for their bravery in undertaking the trial.
The entire clan observes these events, ensuring fairness and the absence of cheating in the trial.
A Thousand Deaths
"A Thousand Deaths" signifies the ceremony of being branded as a Bitten within the clan. In cases of treason, the guilty hyena and any accomplices are to have their ears torn off and receive a bite from every member of the clan. Survivors are demoted to the lowest rank and are permanently barred from redemption.
Quirks
┗ Little behaviors and fun facts within the Magi Giza.
Eating Hierarchy
All food must be brought back to the communal den before being eaten and must be divided properly among all ranks. Higher-ranking hyenas have priority in choosing their portions. Wastefulness and hoarding of food are prohibited. Consumption of another hyena's head is strictly forbidden.
Dislike of sunlight
The Magi Giza have a strong aversion to direct sunlight, as the warmth can be uncomfortable on their thick, often darker-colored pelts. They actively seek out shade and frequently coat themselves in mud or take a dip in water to cool off.
Scar trophies
Scars are revered as prestigious trophies among the hyenas of the Magi Giza. Regarded as tangible reminders of the challenges individuals have overcome and survived, they symbolize resilience and strength.
The Magi Giza clan's territory is a sprawling expanse dominated by mangrove swamps and coastal wetlands, creating a maze of twisted roots and murky waters. The mangrove trees, with their dense foliage and tangled roots, provide natural barriers and hiding spots, making navigation challenging for outsiders. The coastal wetlands, with their shifting tides and hidden channels, add to the treacherous nature of the terrain.
┗ "Every scar is a memory of the challenges you've faced."
Nyota
┗ Tense
They perceive the Magi as irksome neighbors, constantly encroaching on their territory and causing disruptions. While they find their ways unsettling, they begrudgingly tolerate them more than the Kusitawa.
Kusitawa
┗ Hated
The Kusitawa regard the Magi Giza hyenas as nothing more than brutish interlopers, unfit to live in the Kijabi. Their troubled history is rife with countless conflicts and disruptions caused by this clan, cementing their status as unwelcomed in the eyes of the Kusitawa. They are seen as feared rivals.
Zuvan
┗ At war with
The Zuvan think of the Magi Giza clans as repulsive , viewing them as brutish, unrefined beasts that are not in their right mind. They prefer to keep their distance from these hyenas, concerned about catching diseases.
