We were assigned to study and assess three case studies of historic conservation initiatives in groups of 5–6 people, including one modernist building, two local projects, and two international projects. Masjid Lama Mulong, the Lieb residence, Saint Basail Cathedral, and Sahahi Hammam Bathhouse are the buildings that have been selected. We were needed to provide the studied data that focuses on conservation methodologies, theories, and practises after studying these projects and to provide a general conclusion.
Individual Task : Seven Lamps of Architecture
We were each asked to narrow our research to a specific building from the group project and to use one of the seven principles of architecture to describe how important it is to recognise, value, and preserve architectural history. Lamp of Memory was selected as the lamp for my study.
For this assignment, we had to provide a report on the heritage building's proposed heritage and conservation measures. The building that has been handed to us is in The Valley of Hope in Sungai Buloh Leprosarium. The task require us to propose ways to improve the condition of the chalet and propose an attached disabled toilet to the existing chalet
REFLECTION
I learn about techniques to repair and conserve structures over the entire semester of studying history and conservation, as well as about the various conservation methods. Our daily lives can be greatly impacted by the construction techniques and materials used. Since wood buildings were mostly used in the previous project, I had a better understanding of how they function now and how to conserve them. I also discovered ICOMOS and how to use it for various tasks and projects.
