There are lots of ways to be part of Kaleidoscope. Throughout the month, we create Labs, workshops, gatherings, community experiences, and other opportunities built around things worth making, exploring, learning, sharing, or simply experiencing together. Many are open to the wider community, so you don't need to participate in one of our weekly programs to join us unless the individual event says otherwise.
You might come to Kaleidoscope to photograph a desert sunset, make something wonderfully strange, learn alongside an artist or naturalist, follow a rabbit hole into something you never expected to care about, meet people who share one of your interests, or spend an evening under the Sonoran Desert sky.
Some experiences are designed for teens. Some are for emerging and young adults. Some welcome adults, families, or the whole community. Some are about developing a skill or diving more deeply into an interest, while others exist because gathering, creating, exploring, and having a genuinely good time together matter too.
Each experience will tell you who it's designed for, what we'll be doing, the cost if there is one, and how to participate.
There's always something taking shape around here. Some experiences grow from interests people bring to us, some begin with something happening at Home Base or in the Sonoran Desert, and others happen because we discover a person, place, idea, or opportunity that seems far too interesting to pass up.
Registration is available below when an experience is ready to book. If you see something marked Coming Soon, you can let us know you're interested. There's no commitment. It simply helps us know what our community would like to see happen.
Teens & Adults • FREE
Advance Registration Required • Limited to 10 Participants
Join us at Home Base for an evening of slowing down, looking closely, and creating as the light changes across the Sonoran Desert and Santa Rita Mountains.
Choose a phone or camera and explore photography, settle in with paints and art materials to capture the changing colors, shadows, shapes, and light in your own way, or move between the two if inspiration takes you somewhere unexpected.
Along the way, we'll explore composition, perspective, color, light, and shadow, with guidance available throughout the Lab and plenty of room to experiment. This isn't about everyone creating the same image. It's about learning to notice more and finding your own way to respond to what you see.
Photography participants will leave with a collection of images and new techniques to keep experimenting with, while art participants can take home their own sunset study or painting. No previous photography or art experience is required.
There is no charge to participate. If you'd like to help Kaleidoscope continue growing, optional donations are always appreciated, but never expected. Monetary contributions and useful supplies for our animals, gardens, creative projects, or Home Base are all meaningful ways to help.
Photography participants should bring a charged phone or camera. Basic painting and art materials will be provided.
Older Teens & Young Adults
An easygoing evening for games, shared interests, art, conversation, animals, snacks, D&D possibilities, and hanging out with other wonderfully interesting humans, without the pressure to be social in any particular way.
