Kaleidoscope is more than a place learners come during the week. It is a growing community where people of different ages can learn something new, make something meaningful, explore the world around us, meet people who share their interests, or simply spend time together.
Some Kaleidoscope happenings are part of our regular Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday learning experiences. Others are workshops, creative evenings, nature experiences, social gatherings, family events, and opportunities for the wider community to join us.
Whether you are already part of Kaleidoscope or simply curious about what is happening here, this is a place to find something worth exploring.
See what we're exploring at Kaleidoscope.
Follow along with the questions, investigations, projects, practical skills, and real-world experiences shaping our Tuesday and Thursday programs and Friday Community Adventures.
Our plans give us a place to begin while still leaving room for learner interests, unexpected discoveries, weather, wildlife visitors, and the wonderfully interesting things that sometimes take us somewhere we had not planned to go.
Come learn, create, explore, gather, or simply spend some time with us.
Throughout the year, Kaleidoscope opens its doors for creative workshops, nature experiences, women's gatherings, teen and young-adult socials, family evenings, community events, book discussions, guest-led workshops, and other opportunities to try something interesting alongside other curious humans.
You do not need to be enrolled in one of our regular learning experiences to join most public happenings.
There is always something new taking shape here. Below are a few of the happenings coming up soon. Visit Our Learning Weeks to see what enrolled learners will be exploring, or Workshops & Gatherings for public events and registration opportunities.

A relaxed evening of found-object art, imagination, good company, and making wonderfully weird things.
Our first month together is about discovering what Kaleidoscope can become. We'll spend these first weeks getting to know the property and animals, beginning our nature journals, exploring the Sonoran Desert around us, and learning how curiosity, meaningful work, and real-world experiences will shape our time together.
Alongside our regular Tuesday and Thursday experiences, you'll also find Friday Community Adventures, workshops, gatherings, and other opportunities to learn, create, explore, and connect. Plans may sometimes shift as new discoveries, weather, community opportunities, and the interests of our learners lead us somewhere worth following.
Our first week together is about getting comfortable, exploring our new learning community, meeting the animals, beginning our nature journals, and discovering the places and possibilities around us. We'll start learning the rhythms of Kaleidoscope while leaving plenty of room to notice, wonder, ask questions, and follow the things that capture our curiosity.
We'll explore the property, meet the animals, discover our trails and learning spaces, begin our nature journals, and start noticing the plants, animals, patterns, and questions already surrounding us.
We'll spend time getting comfortable with the property, animals, routines, and one another while beginning to discover the responsibilities, projects, and meaningful work that learners may want to make their own.
Journals in hand, we'll slow down and look more closely at the world around us, recording observations through words, pictures, questions, measurements, and whatever else helps us capture what we discover.
We'll begin noticing what Kaleidoscope needs and identifying real projects, responsibilities, and community roles learners may want to take ownership of as the weeks unfold.
Our first Friday adventure will give us a chance to take Kaleidoscope beyond the property while getting comfortable with the rhythms of exploring together, practicing community skills, and discovering something new along the way.

Saturday, August 22, 2026 - 5:30–8:00 PM
Come spend an evening at Kaleidoscope turning an unexpected collection of art supplies, thrifted treasures, recycled materials, natural finds, fabric, buttons, beads, wire, cardboard, and wonderfully random odds and ends into your own one-of-a-kind creature.
Think mixed-media sculpture meets found-object art, with plenty of room for imagination. You might build a peculiar little desert beast with mismatched legs, a colorful bird with wildly impractical wings, a tiny monster with bottle-cap eyes, or an entirely new species no field guide has ever documented.
We'll have a big assortment of materials to dig through, combine, take apart, paint, wrap, layer, embellish, and reimagine. You can come with an idea already brewing or simply start rummaging through the materials and see what begins to emerge.
No artistic experience is needed, and there is no example everyone will be expected to copy. We'll be available to help with tools, construction, and ideas, but there is no “right” finished product. The fun is in slowing down, experimenting, talking, laughing, and seeing what happens when we give ourselves permission to create just for the sake of creating.

We'll provide everything you need to create, but part of the fun of Whimsical Workshops is sharing the wonderfully random things that might inspire someone else.
If you'd like, bring along an art or craft supply, thrift-store treasure, fabric scrap, ribbon, yarn, buttons, beads, old jewelry, interesting paper, natural find, or that strange little thing you've been saving because surely it could become something someday.
Bring something to use yourself, add something to our shared creative stash, or arrive completely empty-handed—bringing supplies is always welcome and never required.
☕ Settle In & Stay Awhile
This is meant to be a relaxed creative evening, so you're also welcome to bring a favorite non-alcoholic drink or snack to enjoy while you create. We'll have some light refreshments here to share, too.
Come as you are. Bring something if you'd like. Make something wonderfully peculiar. Stay awhile. 😊
