What's the difference between values and ethics?
values:
the principle and ideas we think are important (ex: culture, experience, friends, social medias,..)
ethics:
the rules that determine our sense of right vs. wrong
The Heinz Dilemma?
no he shouldn't. from the beginning, it's been the chmist choice and right not to sell him his product because of two main reasons. the medicine hasn't been published and he doesn't want to. he has ethics to do this since the medicine was invented and under his control. on the other hand, the desparate man is clearly wrong to break into someone's property and steal an invention. he should've told the police about the 'inflation' that the chemist is trying to achieve instead of stealing it.
Our ethics develop in stages:
stage 1: avoiding punishment
stage 2: self interest
stage 3: good boy/ good girl
stage 4: law & order
stage 5: social contract ( society benefits, broader vision)
stage 6: universal principles (subjective deep ethics, the only thing that determines what you do)
