Rule Booklet - Pen Tool and alignment
I know this is basically my portfolio 8 representation, but I decided to include it with my portfolio 9 because I put a lot of work into it. The board game design was mostly layers and the rule booklet was working with a lot of alignment, shapes, and the pen tool. I think there is enough of a difference of photoshop skills used.
I used quite a few layers and the components I created last week in portfolio 8. The main photoshop skill I used here was the pen tool. For the borders I used the pen tool to create 1/4 of the design. I implemented the elliptical marquee tool into the border and used stroke and gradient layer styles to give it a bolder look. Once I had finished the 1/4, I duplicated the layers, rotated them, and placed them in their correct positions. I also used the pen tool to create the example boxes and the page numbers spheres.
I used blending layers to get the correct colors I wanted. I used a few color fill layers to also get the right color. I used all sorts of text boxes and used highlighting techniques for each heading, hint, and description.
Contrast: I feel like the border contrasts well with the even look of the text and components. It all contrasts well even though the text is just one font.
Repetition: I repeated the same color scheme, CRAP elements, and border to tie it all together.
Alignment: I kept everything pretty much aligned to the left. I moved the text a bit on the third page in order for it to fit around the inside border. The front page is aligned center to contrast with the centered castle.
Proximity: I placed each headings information right under it with some space in between each section. I also placed the numbers next to each word describing the parts of the game to the numbers in the center. It helps with clarity.
Color choice: I chose colors from the board that complimented the design. Since the board was turquoise with green, I chose a light blueish green to fit in the analogous color scheme. Yellow is used sparingly as a highlight.
Fonts: Berlin Sans FB Demi and basic Calibri with bold and italic counterparts.
Textures are linked in Portfolio 8 for each component. No other textures were used in the rule booklet design.
