Board Game - Blending and Layers
Tiles, Cards, Player Pieces, Box Design, and Board.
I decided to make a board game for my technical writing class. I spent like 8 hours on this project and it was very enlightening. The object of the game is to place mazelike tiles and reach the throne room quicker than the other players. To help give the game some spice, there are event cards and special rules when trying to pass other players and for how to return and leave the castle after reaching the throne room.
I used about 1000 layers for this project. Each rock, bush, grass, and ocean layer, were meticulously placed.
I used the brush tool, layer styles, and layer opacity to create some shading and depth.
I used the shape tool and the pen tool on Adobe Illustrator for the original rough draft.
Contrast: I feel like the dark stone contrasts well with the grass and water. I tried to use colors that worked with one another, but weren't overbearing.
Repetition: I used pretty much the same design for all elements to keep the same artstyle throughout.
Alignment: I kept everything pretty symmetrical to help form around the symmetrical 9x7 grid. I aligned most things in the center.
Proximity: I placed information together that needed to be together. I put the tiles together as well.
Color choice: I chose a pretty analogous color scheme of yellow, green, and blue with a hint of red.
