Pink Sunset - Art History Brush
Original Photo
Art History Brush
I thought this sunset in Bolivar, Missouri was really cool and I thought it would look good if I used some brush strokes on it to make it look more like a painting. I can't paint, so using something like the art history brush can be a very useful tool.
I used the brushes from the Legacy Brush pack and from the Texturelabs Oil Paint pack to air brush the original image.
I used Camera Raw to bring up the texture and clarity of the brushes and bring in a little more contrast.
I used a basic photoshop soft glow brush to brighten the streetlamp and bring more violet and orange to the image.
Contrast: I liked the darker tone of the ground with the light sky, it contrasts each other well. I also used bigger brushes for the ground to draw your eye to the finer detail of the sky.
Repetition: The image has a repetitive mixture of similar brushes.
Alignment: I had the trees aligned to the edges to help guide the eye to the center of the image. Also, the buildings, car, and streetlamp help create a horizontal box on the lower half of the image.
Proximity: I allowed the car and streetlamp to be more visible allowing you to infer that the ground is actually a street.
Color choice: I didn't need to do much to the color since the beautiful sunset was already breathtaking in person. I chose to keep the same color.
There is a rule of thirds layout with the horizon being on the lower third of the image.
