José Manuel Martins Ferreira é Professor de Eletrónica Digital na Universidade do Sudeste da Noruega em Kongsberg. Entre julho de 2014 e junho de 2018 desempenhou as funções de Vice-Reitor da Universidade do Porto, Portugal, onde foi responsável pela Gestão de Informação, Tecnologias Educativas, Qualidade e Melhoria Contínua. Durante este mandato coordenou a certificação do sistema interno de garantia de qualidade da U.Porto, implementou os programas Google for Education e Microsoft Office 365 em todas as 14 faculdades, lançou a plataforma de ensino a distância da universidade e promoveu o desenvolvimento do primeiro MOOC da U.Porto. Entre 2010 e 2013 foi Vice-Presidente para a área académica da Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP). Fundou o Laboratório de Ensino e Aprendizagem da FEUP em 2008, introduziu o programa Google Apps for Education na FEUP em 2013 e foi, entre 2005 e 2011, o Presidente do Júri do Prémio de Excelência em E-learning da U.Porto. Obteve os graus de doutor, mestre e licenciado pela U.Porto (em engenharia eletrotécnica e de computadores) respetivamente em 1992, 1987 e 1982. Fora da sua atividade profissional, cultiva a paixão pelos livros nas suas múltiplas formas: leitura, bibliofilia e escrita.

José Manuel Martins Ferreira is a Full Professor of Digital Electronics at the University of South-Eastern Norway, campus Kongsberg. From July 2014 to June 2018, he served as Vice-Rector of the University of Porto, Portugal, where he was responsible for information management, educational technologies, quality and continuous improvement. During this mandate, he coordinated the certification of U.Porto’s internal quality assurance system, implemented Google for Education and Microsoft Office 365 programmes in all 14 faculties, launched U.Porto’s distance learning platform, and promoted the development of U.Porto’s first MOOC. From 2010 to 2013, he was Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). He founded FEUP’s Teaching and Learning Lab in 2008, introduced the Google Apps for Education programme in FEUP in 2013, and was from 2005 to 2011 Head of the University’s panel that awarded the “U.PORTO e-Learning Excellence Prize”. His PhD, MSc and BSc degrees (in computers and electrical engineering) were obtained at the University of Porto, respectively in 1992, 1987 and 1982. Outside his professional field, he cultivates a love of books in multiple forms: reading, collecting, and writing.
