GOAL: Increase the efficiency and effectiveness of team practice and team meetings while decreasing on the field errors on our football team, beginning with the defense.

MEASURING EFFECTIVENESS: Effectiveness will be measured by the number of times coaching staff needs to make corrections, versus the number of times players self-report and self-correct.

PERSONAL MOTIVATION
o Does this fit in to our player’s sense of who they are and who they want to be as Lamar Cardinal football players?
o We will connect the need for this change with the player’s desire to build on last year’s record breaking season as a 7-5 team to a conference winning team.
o We will work to get personal buy-ins from returning starters and upper classmen.
o We will tie this to our ongoing mission of Champions in the Classroom, Champions on the Field
PERSONAL ABILITY
o Do our players have the knowledge and skills to be able to self-report and analyze their errors and identify missed and completed assignments.
o We will begin by working with individual players one-on-one to teach the skills by breaking down game film play-by-play together.
o We will provide guided practice and immediate feedback to players until they are confident in their ability.
o We will provide mentorship as players transition into independent self-assessment.
SOCIAL MOTIVATION
o Are people others respect modeling the right behaviors at the right time?
o Are other people encouraging the right behavior?
o We will enlist the position coaches to serve as teachers.
o We will enlist team leaders and returning starters to mentor and model to younger athletes in their positions.
o We will begin by teaching, modeling and coaching the skill of film breakdown and error analysis to team leaders and returning starters.
