1. I am a defensive coach for the Lamar Cardinal Football Team. We meet daily in several classroom settings including: position meeting rooms, defensive meeting rooms, and on the football field. The class will be delivered in person, but there is an on-line component, as student athletes will be required to breakdown opponent’s game films independently.
2. As a D-1 football team representing Lamar University, the expectations placed on us by the university, students and alumni are to produce a football team that is prepared to be competitive in the Southland Conference.
3. The nature of my subject is a combination of theoretical and practical. As we prepare for each opponent, we break down their strengths and weaknesses. We can determine that, in theory, for example, they are a running team, so we need to prepare our defense accordingly. However, there are practical items that include specific techniques necessary for both running and passing offenses. We are also both convergent and divergent. We strive for the single goal of winning by scoring more points offensively and keeping our opponent from scoring at all. Throughout our week’s planning, we are divergent in our methods, as we must prepare for many possibilities.
4. The characteristics of our learners are vast. Most do learn best by doing, but there are many styles of learning by doing. Our students all come with prior knowledge, but it can be varied, as all were coached by different men prior to coming to Lamar. Their goals are all the same, improving individually and as a team to win.
5. The teacher has grown to become a fan of learning by doing, and by letting his students learn by doing.
