In the long run, my Influencer Change Plan will benefit our players, our coaches and our team as a whole. By shifting the responsibility of film breakdown to our athletes, they will not only take ownership of their learning, they will begin to catch errors quickly, and self-correct before having it pointed out by a coach. As we progress, error correction will occur naturally. Players will begin to see what coaches see, on many occasions, before the coaches even see it.
I plan on implementing this change in phases, beginning with my position, linebackers and safeties first. Because of my relationship with these position players, along with my Defensive Coordinators, I feel that I will have more buy in and an easier time with those Critical Conversations. My hope is, that as other positions in defense observe the positive outcome, they, too, will embrace the change. And, as the offensive positions begin to observe the positive outcome, we will have complete team by in. This is, in fact, a true WIG!
