Cloud 9 Citizenship

What is a Cloud 9 Citizen?

A Cloud 9 Citizen is a representing and loyal main member of Cloud 9 who has taken the Oath of Allegience.

The Oath of Allegiance, available on this page, is essentially an agreement to be nice, fun, and a representing and loyal main member of Cloud 9.

More specifically, a Cloud 9 Citizen is an individual who previously met members of Cloud 9, joined Cloud 9 Chat, joined voice chat, joined a party in the 'verse, participated in Cloud 9 group activities, during which party members got to know each other in those contexts, joined Cloud 9 as a main member (set as main via RSI), applied for Cloud 9 Citizenship, had their application reviewed and accepted, and attended a naturalization ceremony in the 'verse.

Becoming a Cloud 9 Citizen comes with benefits that are not available to anyone else. One of the most fundamental advantages of citizenship is being able to vote on topics as well as nominate and elect citizens into leadership within the democratic tiers of Cloud 9 Government. Citizenship is one of the first prerequisites to joining our crews and fleets.

Additional advantages of C9 citizenship will surface over time as more features are implemented in the 'verse. These include new organizational features and permission systems for access to facilities, whether hangars or constructed bases on land or in space, and access to org-reserved ships and ground vehicles. Active and involved citizens will be given priority in decision-making processes that shape the way we operate as an organizational network. Contributing crewmates will potentially be able to receive greater profits.

Many people like Star Citizen enough that they have devoted countless hours and paid large sums of real money to support the universe sim. Naturally, when it comes to group activities, it helps to have a membership structure in place - even before the addition of org features - with which the individuals involved can feel comfortable and confident in interacting with others without having to worry that other people may attempt to sabotage or otherwise ruin the fun for them. Our citizens are able to establish camaraderie and build a bond of trust with one another through citizen-exclusive activities like crews.

Becoming a Cloud 9 Citizen

Eligibility

Citizens do not have to remain active, although it is required to attain and maintain roles and access.

Crewmates, however, do have to remain active, or they must find qualified substitutes or replacements.

Citizens in leadership and management roles are expected to meet the respective requirements.

Star Citizen 1.0

Eligibility for citizenship will change to include additional prerequisites with Star Citizen 1.0 and include a process similar to how civilians will be able to receive UEE citizenship. In other words, it’s incredibly easy to obtain C9 citizenship now, while it will need to be earned in the future. Existing C9 citizens will be grandfathered in with SC 1.0, although to maintain fairness, all citizens will still need to complete the necessary tasks to earn the privileges that will accompany C9 citizenship.

Completing the Process

If you're not already a citizen, you may have already started the process of becoming one.

The steps toward citizenship will change between Star Citizen alpha 4.x and the 1.0 full release.

For the time being, it's both a simple and relatively quick process:

Naturalization Ceremony

The naturalization ceremony is the official process and recognition of a member becoming a citizen.

Our ceremonies are a way of bringing our members together to help form and further develop our community, to share and experience fun activities in the Star Citizen universe and other great environments.

When & Where

The ceremony may occur soon after the application has been accepted or at a later date depending on availabilities. Members becoming citizens in November or December who have availability lining up with the anniversary dates of the founding of our organizations, the ceremonies may be scheduled on the same dates and double as celebrations of the founding of each.

The anniversary dates:

*The original versions of these two groups, external to Star Citizen, were founded the same year as Cloud 9.

Ceremonies need not occur on those dates, they are provided here simply for awareness, should availability line up. Previous naturalization ceremonies have always occurred on different dates scattered throughout the year.

Arrive early if possible. The ceremony could run anywhere from as little as 15 minutes up to a few hours hours if it includes adventures in the 'verse.

The default location of our ceremonies is aboard an 890 Jump, although it may occur at a public-facing Cloud 9 facility or another location that is secure and free from any distractions and interruptions. Provided a citizen's hangar is set up for it, it can be used as the location.

Who is Invited

Our naturalization ceremonies may have anywhere from 3 to unlimited attendees.

As few as 3 may attend if the ceremony consists of only 1 member becoming a citizen with the other 2 individuals being the required citizens attending to officiate and complete the process, one as representative and the other as witness.

Attending your own naturalization ceremony is required to become a Cloud 9 Citizen.

The general public is allowed to attend and witness the ceremony when it occurs at a public location. The location must be a secured and safe environment. No weapons allowed except by our security. All priority seating and standing room is given to main members and Cloud 9 Citizens in attendance.

How it Happens

The ceremony may be formal or informal. It could occur as a stand-alone event or alongside another activity. We may have one or several members complete the process at a ceremony.

We require no actions from our members becoming citizens other than simply attending the ceremony.

All attendees meet in voice & ‘verse. The event begins with a current citizen gathering attendees together and letting everyone know the ceremony is about to begin and has begun, then they or another current citizen will recite an abbreviated version of the oath, then welcome the new citizens. After the oath, a citizen may decide to give a brief speech.

That’s it!

Afterward, everybody in attendance may go on an adventure together or attend a reception or some entertainment.

Review for Citizenship

If for some reason you do not pass the review for citizenship or your application is denied, you are welcome to reach out for help and utilize the information provided on this site and through Cloud 9 Chat. Optionally contact a Cloud 9 Citizen in advance with questions for help with preparing for citizenship.

After you become a Cloud 9 Citizen, you may submit a review and potentially be a representative for future applicants. To perform those tasks, you must have previously interacted with the applicants in voice & 'verse, enough to determine that they are nice and fun such that, from your interaction, you believe that they could be good Cloud 9 Citizens and recommend that their applications be accepted for citizenship.
