Luke 2:8-14
Jesus is Born
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
John 14:27
Jesus Brings Us a Certain Kind of Peace
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Jesus’ Birthday is not necessarily about lights, consumerism, shopping, wreaths, and tree icicles...Christmas seems to come and go quickly...And then after Christmas these things are taken down, gone, or are put away...
Jesus does not want our time with Him just to come and go and be put away...He wants us to spend more time with Him, each and everyday...
Let us see that when the word became flesh He is forever with us, each and everyday...He brings a peace that only He can bring...A peace that is different from the kind of peace one has on earth...He can bring comfort each day...He gives us a full and abundant life each and everyday...Let us see that He is the One who does bring the good news which brings great joy to all people...He brings nourishment to the soul...He is the One who teaches us to be gentler and kinder to all men and women...He is the One who teaches and shows the glory of God to the highest glory and peace on earth to all to whom His favor rests...
