John 14:21-23
Jesus teaches us about obedience
21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?"
23 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Jesus teaches us that if we know His commands and we obey them, then we (as followers) love Him...Also, if we love Him, God His Father will love us...
We must strive to be obedient, because that is what Jesus tells us...As we get closer and closer to Him, we see how difficult this can be every second of everyday...But we usually become more aware of our sins as we grow closer to Him...This does not make us less likely to sin or to be led into temptation(s)...
Even after Jesus tells His disciples in the Book of John about following His commands, St. Peter denies Jesus and St. Thomas doubts Him...But because God made the Perfect Plan for the imperfect man, Jesus forgives them...Jesus wants us to be obedient, but He forgives us when we are not...We need to pray and ask Him for our forgiveness, thank Him for being our Savior and work on being more obedient everyday...
