Job 42:1-6
Job Comments to God
1 Then Job replied to the Lord:
2 “I know that you can do all things;
no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’
Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me to know.
4 “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.’
5 My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
6 Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.”
Isaiah 40:21-22
We are Like Grasshoppers
21 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood since the earth was founded?
22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
Isaiah 55:8-9
God's Thoughts are not Man's Thoughts
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Job got to see and hear God...But as we read about Job, maybe seeing God would be a problem for us...Look what Job had to go through to see Him...Job did say after listening and seeing Him that He is too Wonderful to Understand...So if there is an Almighty God then He is Divine and Divine LOVE is different than the love we have...His thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are not our ways...And His LOVE is not like our love...Maybe the Eternal and the Infinite One knows we are much like Job...We cannot understand all the wonderful things He understands...And as the Prophet Isaiah says, we are like grasshoppers compared to Him...Surely One who could create the heavens and earth and something out of nothing helps us understand why Isaiah might write we are like grasshoppers when we look at our own thoughts and ways...
The Eternal One could impose Himself on us and we would be forced to listen and to see Him...Yet, we do know that LOVE is not forcing or imposing...Yes, we are polluted by sin, yet I think we also succumb to the nature of an earthly life...We do what we do each and everyday of our lives...How much time I spend with Him is dependent on how much time I make for Him...And this routine of life gets in the way of me spending more time with Him...And yet, with all our obstacles, He does want us to seek Him...And it seems often to me that my chaotic thoughts, and my personal daily routines are part of the problem of God hiding...Maybe I am hiding as much as He is...Maybe my life is getting in the way of getting closer to Him...
