Standard 7: Assessment

Standard 7 - Assessment The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.

As an educator, I will balance assessment by monitoring student participation, effort, and progress throughout the quarter. Being a Physical Education Teacher, I know there is more to students than their athleticism. Some students are natural athletes, but others need more practice. I will make decisions driven by data to measure student performance.

Records

Adaptive Physical Education is connected to Standard 7: Assessments through 7M.

The Competent teacher maintains useful and accurate records of student work and performance.

This is an example of how I maintain records. I use 2 platforms. The first platform is Google Classroom. On Google Classroom, students submit assignments. I am able to grade them and give them feedback. I then use a transfer extension to transfer these grades into ASPEN, which is how I formally submit grades for CPS.

SMART Goals

SMART Goals

Adaptive Physical Education is connected to Standard 7: Assessments through 7L.

The Competent teacher involves students in self-assessment activities to help them become aware of their strengths and needs and encourages them to establish goals for learning

I taught a lesson on SMART goals. Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. I used Pear Deck so students can create their own goals around physical activity. I went through the presentation and then asked students to rewrite their goals so they are SMART. When students write SMART goals they are more likely to hold themselves accountable for their learning throughout the semester.
