Standard 3:
Planning for Differentiated Instruction

Standard 3 - Planning for Differentiated Instruction The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.

I will plan my lessons according to my students' interests, readiness, and learning profiles. Creating a positive learning environment and developing positive relationships will allow me to plan for their needs. As an educator intentionally planning instruction, I can focus on individual student needs

Soccer Unit Plans

This Soccer Unit Plan is connected to Standard 3: Planning for Differentiated Instruction through 3I.

The Competent teacher creates short-term and long-term plans to achieve the expectations for student learning.

During my clinical experiences, I have created both short- and long-term plans. These Soccer Lesson plans were created for a 5th grade group to learn how to play soccer throughout 3 weeks. Each lesson builds upon each other, so students meet the expectations. The plans have accommodations and modifications so that all students can meet the daily objectives.

Physical Education Syllabus

This Physical Education Syllabus is connected to Standard 3: Planning for Differentiated Instruction through 3F and 3H.

The Competent teacher understands how to co-plan with other classroom teachers, parents or guardians, paraprofessionals, school specialists, and community representatives to design learning experiences and establish high expectations for each student’s learning and behavior.

At the beginning of my student teaching, I worked with the Physical Education department to help design the syllabus for the class. The first week of school we went over the syllabus and established high expectations so that students would be ready to learn every day. Every time a student does not follow one of the expectations, I have a discussion to try and find out why the expectation was not being followed. This allows students to develop trust and understanding that I am not just there to enforce rules but to get to a deeper understanding of what is happening.
