Universal Design Focused Production
Accessible Design does not ask us to be inclusive. It allows separate and unequal media that is made accessible by applying bandaids like captions, audio descriptions, and artificial pauses. It only asks us to accommodate, not to include.
The I-See-U Universal Design production method calls for an integrated approach that creates an experience that can be enjoyed at the same time, in the same place, on the same channel by persons of all sensory abilities. We are attempting to achieve this by:
Writing scripts in a visual-narrative style that references radio story telling techniques like those used in A Prairie Home Companion.
Integrating text in to the animation in a way that does not ask the viewer to choose between reading the text or watching the animated action.
Adding soundscapes to the audio that bring emotion and help tell the visual story through audio environment, sound effects and add voices.
