The project is in collaboration with the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at Ferris State University. We created motion-comic style animations of black people, from history, that overcame obstacles to achieve success. The animations reside in the Jim Crow Museum's Virtual Tour, in the section called 'Achieving Despite Resistance'. They feature the stories of Rube Foster, Shirley Chisholm, Garrett Morgan, the Harlem Hellfighters, Leontyne Price, and Percival Prattis.
6 Animations that focus on Achieving Despite Resistance:
Athletes – Rube Foster
Politicians – Shirley Chisholm
Thinkers/Inventors – Garrett Morgan
Military – Harlem Hellfighters
Entertainers/Musicians - Leontyne Price
Press - Percival Prattis
In the Digital Art and Design program at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, we have been involved in EPIC projects that bring attention to topics of Social Justice.
The EPIC project is faculty and students collaborating with a wide range of professionals, schools, companies, and organizations to produce free, innovative media that helps teachers create engaging classrooms and community advocates to move populations beyond reaction to action. You can see the EPIC + KCAD projects here: epicsite.org
We maximize the experience for all sight, hearing, and cognitive abilities by utilizing custom text captioning, visual narratives in the audio, and proper pacing for a wide range of reading speeds. This commitment to providing media that provides a quality experience for all sight, hearing, and cognitive abilities is at the core of our Universal Design approach.
